Gargid's Earth: Prologue

I would like to announce the first in a new line of postings. The following is the first installment of a serialblog, titled Gargid's Earth. It follows the adventures of a group of people in the year 2990, after mankind has fallen and a new race of feline hybrids has taken over. Now comes the brief prologue, which will set everything up for you. I will make new posting every week until the story is completed.

In the mid 1980s, the government of the United States began research into the concept of combining the DNA of humans with other animals. Ten years passed, in which many animals were thought out to be the first subject DNA used. Finally, feline DNA was selected by committee and in New York City, in a secret lab, they prepared for the experiment. A 25-year-old intern at the labs, Linda, was selected to be the test subject for the project. Feline DNA was obtained and was mated with an human egg, which was then placed in Linda, who was placed under 24-hour watch in order to track the development of the fetus. Finally, on Christmas Day, 1995, the results were born. The infant was given the designation of GARGID #001, the name GARGID standing for Genetically AlteRed Government humanoID. GARGID was soon adopted by Linda as the infant's name, althought the scientists were wary of naming and proceeds to create more GARGIDs, using both feline and later, canine, DNA.
Gargid, himself, grew to be quite intelligent. Althought Linda went on and had three human kids and was told never to speak of the project, she treated Gargid with care and Gargid loved Linda with the love that overcomes any scientific thinking.
After 20 years, the project was made known at a meeting of the world's top genetic scientists and Gargid and his kin were somewhat accepted by mankind, althought there was a backlash after reveal. The backlashers condenmmed the scientists for playing with God's instructions and treated the hybrids with disdain. Gargid soon wowed people with his intelligence and was praised by the world as a free-thinker.
In the mid-2020s, the world was still reeling from the reveal of the GARGIDs and many nations were starting to use the same concepts as the GARGID project to create other things, including weapons and ammo. At the same time, one of Gargid's fellow hybrids was creating what was to start the downfall of mankind.
This GARGID had, in his genetic make-up, like many, the gene which causes the fear of canines in cats. This fear is genetic and so is the gene which causes dog allergies. This GARGID, named Lokai, managed to create a virus which would activate the dog allergy in anyone that came in contact with the virus.
When an experimental release among a group of children gave results, the project was then discontinued by Gargid, over fears of another backlash. However, the children soon spread the virus to their friends, which spread outside of the school.
Gargid tried to contain the virus, which then spread across the whole continent and watched as dog owners became allergic to their best friends. The virus soon spread across the world and Gargid could only watch, as it was too late to do anything. Soon, every person in the world was allergic to dogs.
The nations of the world tried to think of an solution to the sudden outbreak of allergies. Meanwhile, Gargid took hold of a sample of the virus and tried to develope an antidote, which failed when the virus proved resistant to any antibiotic.
Gargid soon informed the nations of the world of a solution. The solution was to place all dogs in the world in special pyramids, under the care of robot caretakers. The solution was put in place and by 2040, the whole canine population of the world was inside the pyramids.
In the mid 21st century, the nations of the world stood on edge after a plague of dog allergies has caused the loss of mankind's greatest pet. The United States, in league with Britain, France, and Canada, form an alliance against the nations of the Far East, which also form an allience and begin a build-up of weapons and forces, which explode in the late 2050s. Over the next ten years, the nations of the world fought the fabled World War III, also known as the Final War. The first city to be atomic-bombed was L.A. During the conflict, civilization as we know it collasped completely and the planet was changed. New York City was atomic-bombed twice, in 2059 and in 2064.
Climates of many areas shifted radically. The fertile midwest became an arid desert. In one of the last acts of the war, the dogs were freed from the pyramids and it was found that the allergy had worn off completely. The war ended with the bombing of the last standing city in the world.
In 2070, the survivors of the Third World War were gathered around the ruins of the cities they once lived in. The large amount of radiation from the ruins kept them from returning and Gargid gathered a small group of his fellow hybrids, many of whom had died in the two New York atomic bombings of the war.
The remaining hybrids were starting to become envious of mankind, who had abandoned them during the bombings. Gargid, at the same time, was preaching acceptence of the humans. His mother had smuggled him out of New York before the first bombing.
A small group of humans joined with the hybrids and the two groups began to lay the groundwork of the first new nation to form after the war. Gargid became the leader of the small nation, which expanded over the next twenty years as other group of humans joined up to form Gargidia.
The nation soon encompassed the northern Eastern Seaboard and the capital of the nation was placed in the ruins of New York City, which the hybrids and now, their offspring, and the humans rebuilt with Gargid's guidance. The new city to rise from the ruins was called Gargid City and Gargid, now nearing 100, was starting to form a government to take over after his death.
He based the government and its laws on his teachings, which included the acceptence of humans into the society. Gargid's fellow hybrids, sore over their treatment by mankind, wanted to exclude them but Gargid wouldn't have it.
In 2110, Gargid died at the age of 115 and the citizens of Gargidia mourned the loss of their leader. The leadership soon passed to a special council of feline hybrids, who began to reform Gargidia in their image.
They began to pass what they called the Human Control Laws. The council felt that if mankind were allowed to rise back to his old standing, he would destroy the world again and so, these laws were passed to keep mankind below the hybrids.
Soon, the feline hybrids became the top order in Gargidia and the past was soon forgotten. The history was changed so that Gargid was the product of a feline union and that the past civilization has belonged to the canines, who Gargid led a war against, which they labeled the Genesis War. Within a generation of the passing of Gargid, the way things are had been set and the state of the world did not change at all.
